Ric Best, Conductor
Dr. Ric Best has served forty-nine years in Tennessee public schools, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and as conductor of the Tennessee Wind Symphony. At Chattanooga he served as assistant director and taught wind band repertoire and methods courses. He holds a Doctorate in Administration and Music Education from UT Knoxville where he studied conducting with Dr. W. J. Julian. Dr. Best served fourteen years on the TMEA Board of Directors and was president of three statewide band organizations. He belongs to five Tennessee Band Halls of Fame, is twice a Sudler Laureate, a member of the Sousa Legion of Honor and has citations of excellence from the NBA and the MENC. Under his leadership, the Wind Symphony has appeared at Carnegie Hall in 2006, in London, England, the International Sousa Festival in Washington D.C., and a variety of music conventions. Dr. Best has served as clinician and adjudicator in 23 states.
Tennessee Wind Symphony
The Tennessee Wind Symphony was chartered in 1991 to provide a musical opportunity for adult musicians committed to excellence in wind band performance. The organization has appeared at national and international events and was selected to receive the Sousa Foundation's coveted Sudler Silver Scroll Award for excellence in music performance.
