John Rutter in Carnegie Hall
First chorister, then conductor, then composer, John Rutter has always been involved with the choir. As a young man, Rutter sang in the choir at Clare College and eventually became its music director. Later, he founded a group called the Cambridge Singers with whom he continues to record to this day. Rutter’s contributions to the field of choral music have earned him several honors, most notably a Commander of the Most Excellent British Empire for services to music as well as MidAmerica Productions’ designation as Conductor Laureate which he was given in May 2015 for conducting 125 concerts in Carnegie Hall on the MidAmerica Productions’ series since 1988. His compositional career continues to provide him with opportunities to perform all over the world; in fact, he will be making his Florence conducting debut in June, 2018 with MidAm International as part of The Great & Grand American Choral Series in Italy, from June 1 to June 10. The concert of his Requiem will occur on June 6 in the great Basilica di Santa Croce.
