MidAm International’s 2017 season of concerts will take place between April 11 and July 31 in Florence, Italy; Vienna, Austria; and Syros, Greece; according to the General Director and Music Director, Peter Tiboris.
The opening concert, in Florence, Italy, on April 11 during Holy Week, will be led by Peter Tiboris who will conduct sacred music with the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, soloists, and choruses from California and Florence, Italy, at the Great Basilica di Santa Croce. An additional performance of a cappella sacred music will be held in Verona, Italy.
On Tuesday, June 19, in Vienna, Austria, conductor Po-Wei Lai will lead the Bay Area Youth Music Society Chamber Orchestra of California (BAYMS), at the Oberlaa Theater in Vienna in works by Bizet, Copland, and Nielsen. Additional performances with choruses from Arizona, Nebraska, New Mexico, New Jersey, and Oregon will take place on June 20 and 23 in Vienna and Salzburg respectively. Peter Tiboris will conduct Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Mozart’s Requiem on June 21 with Symphonisches Orchestra Wien at the famed Votivkirche, in Vienna.
The 13th International Festival of the Aegean will be held between July 16 and 31 at the Apollo Theater on the Island of Syros, Greece. In addition to oratorios, there will be performances of sacred music; four performances of the opera Madama Butterfly; performances by Greek Opera Studio of Casanova (based on Mozart’s Don Giovanni), Liederabend, A Musical Theater Evening, and a special performance for children called “Bravo, Brava;” and two gala performances by members of the National Ballet of Bucharest under Renato Zanella, the Director and Choreographer.
